Review Blitz: Where Danger Lies

Where Danger Lies Where Danger Lies by Donna Del Oro
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Where Danger Lies is the third book in The Jake Bernstein FBI series by Donna Del Oro. I normally read books in order but this is a first installment from Donna Del Oro for me. I loved the suspense and thrill of this book as well as Meg's and Jake's characters. I will go back and read the other two books just to see what all I missed and have a better understanding of the series. The book has plenty of twist and turns throughout the chapters. This lives you guessing. I think that may have been my favorite part.

Where Danger Lies
by Donna Del Oroi

GENRE: Romantic suspense

Based on actual circumstances, two cases prove that truth is indeed stranger than fiction as FBI Special agent, Jake Bernstein, is pulled into two apparently unrelated cases while on medical leave in San Diego.  A female officer assigned to Naval Base Coronado is killed and a Muslim woman is viciously beaten and left for dead. Jake knows about seeking truth and justice amid lies and deception. He suspects something else is at work, two very different evils overlapping as two different worlds violently collide.

Meg Larsen has come to terms with Jake’s role in her beloved grandmother’s death, accepts that he has a dangerous job, and is proud of his role in thwarting terrorists who threatened countless lives. She’s willing to aid him in his investigations but not so accepting of his refusal to commit to her and give her a reason to alter her career plans.

Even as Jake arrives at a crossroads in his relationship with Meg, he must stay alert and strive to keep both of them safe.  Although San Diego is sunny and picture-perfect, you never know...WHERE DANGER LIES.

“NCIs? What’s the crime, Admiral Snider?”

“Murder. One of the officers on my ship. I think an objective look is needed.”

“What happened to him?”

“Her. Lieutenant Samantha Carlton was found dead in the trunk of her car three days ago. The preliminary tox screen showed nothing, but the lab did an advanced analysis. She’d been poisoned with ketamine. Made her heart stop. She was forty-one and in excellent physical condition. Also, someone crushed her larynx and windpipe.”

“Sounds like a case of overkill.” Jake rubbed the underside of his chin from force of habit. Intriguing case but he really didn’t want to get involved. "Perhaps premeditated, but made to look like a crime of passion or rage? That’d be my off-the-cuff assessment.”

"Good, now we’re getting somewhere,” Rear Admiral Snider said. “The local cops are pushing the NCI team in one direction. Their theory doesn’t hold water, that it was a hate crime. Lieutenant Carlton was gay, but more importantly, she had access to classified guided missile codes.”

"Understood," Jake said, shaking his head. National security was at issue here. Even unofficially, he was already involved.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Donna Del Oro's dream since childhood (when she used to create her own comic books and share them with her friends) has been to write fiction. Escaping the humdrum of ordinary life always seemed to her an ideal form of self-entertainment. Better than TV and even better than some books! As soon as she retired from high school teaching (which was a suspenseful adventure in itself), Donna turned to fiction writing. Becoming a member of the RWA and Sisters in Crime has helped her to learn the craft and focus on what she needed to do to get published.

Besides writing Chica Lit, she writes romantic suspense and thrillers. Her two latest SMART ROMANTIC THRILLERS are: A BODYGUARD OF LIES, LIES IN WAIT (Book Two) and a paranormal thriller, THE DELPHI BLOODLINE. A BODYGUARD OF LIES takes place in present-day England, Ireland and Germany with echoes back to WW II. A Jewish-American FBI agent, who's fluent in German, goes undercover to investigate an elderly, naturalized American grandmother, suspected of being a Nazi spy and war criminal. LIES IN WAIT follows FBI agent, Jake Bernstein (now a member of a CounterTerrorism Task Force), to Silicon Valley. Working undercover as a Muslim biotech scientist, he is recruited to join a sleeper cell intent on terrorist activities. All three of her published thrillers remain on Musa Publishing's mystery imprint's Top Twenty Bestselling books.

Donna Del Oroi will be awarding two autographed print copies (US ONLY) to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.

Review: An Alaskan Christmas

An Alaskan Christmas An Alaskan Christmas by Belle Calhoune
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An Alaskan Christmas is the seventh book in the Alaskan Grooms series by Belle Calhoune. I love Belle's writing. She somehow always manages to bring me back to reality and make me think about the inspirational aspects of life and how we often don't realize most of the things we are over looking. In An Alaskan Christmas Maggie and Finn were childhood friends who hadn't seen each other in over a decade.

Maggie is a single mother who moved to Love, Alaska for a fresh start. Maggie wants nothing more than her precious son to grow up without the stigma of his fathers mistakes. That can be hard to do when other's want to blame a child for the sins of his father. Can Maggie trust Fin to be around her and her child without them getting to attached.

Fin is a pilot. He wants to partner with his brother in the family charter. In order to do so he needs to help Maggie with her store to get his inheritance. Fin has always had a thing for marriage but he knows he isn't cut out to be a family man. So he can't go walking into a ready made family and try to start a romance. He won't do anything but hurt all those involved.

Review: The Cowboy Who Got Away

The Cowboy Who Got Away The Cowboy Who Got Away by Nancy Robards Thompson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Cowboy Who Got Away is the third book in the Celebration, Texas mini series by Nancy Robards Thompson. If you have not gotten the chance to visit Celebration, Texas I suggest you do today! I have loved all three visit's to the precious town. The Cowboy Who Got Away is a second chance romance. Jude and Juliette are high school sweethearts. They are absolutely precious and have the typical stubborn issues that push each other away but yet pull each other back at the same time. I couldn't put this book down.

Jude is a World Champion bull rider. Jude comes home to take care of a few issues and possibly be able to move forward with his life. Then he gets roped into reunion activities. I mean what is a high school reunion without prom king. He doesn't exactly hate the idea of spending time with his prom queen.

Juliette is a small town wedding coordinator. She happens to do a lot of business with Jude's sister Lucy as she owns the wedding venue in town. She is also on the reunion committee, so when her prom king comes to town she can't let him break her heart again. He may take part of her with him when he lives.

HONEST INTENTIONS by Kennedy Layne Blog Tour

USA Today Bestselling Author Kennedy Layne continues the Safeguard Series with this fast-paced romantic suspense novel that leads the SSI team on the trail of a serial killer who continually seems to be one step ahead…

Coen Flynn has always done the right thing, even it meant siding against his own family. His sense of justice was what led him to take a job in law enforcement, though his choice of agency was a bit unorthodox. His current assignment was believed to be a simple protection detail.  He was never supposed to be identified by his charge, but a murder took priority and changed the course of his mission.

Brettany Lambert’s life is suddenly rocked when she finds the body of a dead friend on the eve of what was supposed to be a special wedding. Now Brettany and Coen are trapped in the middle of a blizzard and their attraction will fuel the heat of temptation. Good intentions always have a way of backfiring, but his desired intent won’t matter if a notorious serial killer can finish what he started.

DEAR BRIDGET, I WANT YOU by Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland - Release Day Blitz

(A standalone novel)
Release date 9/18/2017

A Contemporary Romance Novel

New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Authors
Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

Dear Bridget,
I’m writing this letter because it’s highly doubtful I’ll ever garner the courage to say this to your face.
So, here goes.
We’re totally wrong for each other. You’re the proper single mum with a good head on your shoulders. I’m just the carefree British doctor passing through town and temporarily living in your converted garage until I head back to England.
But here’s the thing… for some bloody reason, I can’t stop thinking about you in very inappropriate ways.
I want you.
The only reason I’m even admitting all of this to you right now is because I don’t believe it’s one-sided. I notice your eyes when you look at me, too. And as crass as I appear when we’re joking around about sex, my attraction to you is not a joke.
So, what’s the purpose of this note? I guess it’s a reminder that we’re adults, that sex is healthy and natural, and that you can find me just through the door past the kitchen. More specifically, it’s to let you know that I’m leaving said door cracked open from now on in case you’d like to visit me in the middle of the night sometime.
No questions asked.
Think about it.
Or don’t.
Whatever you choose.
It’s doubtful I’ll even end up sliding this letter under your door anyway.
