CLOSE TO YOU
BLUSH FOR ME

EXCERPT:

“There seems to be an explosion in the jackass population,” I reply, and sigh, passing my glass to Kat for a refill.

“Where are you meeting them?” he asks, and I bite my lip.

“I don’t want to tell you.”

“Online,” he says with a nod.

“I didn’t say that!”

“Didn’t have to. If you met him at the gym or the grocery store, or somewhere else in person, you wouldn’t be embarrassed.”

“I’m not embarrassed.”

“Yes, you are. Otherwise, you wouldn’t mind telling me.”

“Fine.” I sigh and rub my forehead with my fingers. “I met them online.”

“Stop that,” he says.

“I don’t know where else I’d meet people,” I reply. “I’m at work at least fifty hours a week. I don’t do school or clubs or church, and I rarely go to the grocery store because I always eat here.”

“I could stop feeding you,” Mia interjects and I toss her a glare.

“I’m just saying, if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten.”

“I don’t understand any of the words you just said.” I squint at him, trying to process.

“Switch it up,” he says with a grin. “Try to meet people somewhere else. I mean, you didn’t meet me online, and I’m not an asshole.”

“Sure, you’re cute, and you look like you have your shit together, but I suspect that once I got to know you I’d learn that you have mommy issues and fourteen dogs.”

“You might,” he says with a thoughtful nod. “I do hide those things well. All I’m saying is, stop using the dating sites and try meeting people in real life.”

“Yeah. Easy for you to say.” I pout into my wineglass. “Do I need to send you some money for this counseling session?”

“Nah, the first one’s on me,” he says, tossing that crazy-hot smile at me again. “Just don’t combine Star Wars and Star Trek anymore and that’s payment enough for me.”

He pulls a few bills out of his wallet and tosses them on the bar, then stands to leave.

“Have a good night, and good luck,” he says.

“Thanks.” Just as he’s almost out of view, I call out. “Wait! I didn’t ask your name.”

“Trevor,” he says, and my stomach immediately does at least four cartwheels. “Trevor Cooper.”

“You’re early,” is all I can think to say. My cheeks burning, my fingertips immediately tremble. “You’re not supposed to be here for two more days.”

“I like to come early. Get the lay of the land, that sort of thing.” He smiles and waves. “See you in a couple of days.”

He walks away, and as soon as I hear the front door close, I turn to my friends and just stare at them in utter horror.

“Tell me that didn’t just happen.”

About Kristen Proby:

Review Tour: Undercover With The Heiress

Undercover with the Heiress (Fitzgerald House #5)Undercover with the Heiress by Nan Dixon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Undercover with the Heiress is the fifth book in the Fitzgerald House series. Nan Dixon did an absolutely remarkable job with this one just like the rest of the series. If you haven't read any of the previous books in the Fitzgerald House series than you are unaware of the fact that it is a B&B ran by the Fitzgerald family. Kaden and Sophie are complete polar opposites but you know how the old saying goes opposites attract. Neither of them are a direct family member of the Fitzgerald family but both have ties to the household.

Sophie is an absolute spoiled princess who has always lived on daddy's dime. She has no idea what it means to earn her own money or actually work for that matter. She was raised to be a spoiled pampered princess, well that is until daddy gets a little too tired of her shopping sprees among other things. Her brother Gray is married to Abby one of the Fitzgerald's, so when things get a little rough at home with daddy Sophie runs to Gray. Yet Gray isn't as accepting as she expects and he makes her go to work.

Nathan is an undercover FBI agent whose father works at the Fitzgerald House. Nathan has to come to Savannah because of a family emergency but finds a witness to one of his cases while at the home. Can he keep his cover intact while spending time with the Fitzgerald family and not fall for the nanny of his witness? He doesn't understand why he is even attracted to her in the first place he can tell she is one of those spoiled rich girls who are completely shallow and expects men to fall at her feet.

Sophie and Nathan surprise me so much through out "Undercover with the Heiress". I absolutely enjoyed watching Sophie grow as the novel progressed. As well as watching Nathan soften up just a bit as sweet little Issy melts his heart. You will not regret this purchase get your copy today. It is one of those reads you absolutely can not put down.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ GENRE:   Contemporary Romance Series ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
What's behind her beautiful mask? FBI agent Kaden Farrell is on a mission. He's undercover at Fitzgerald House in Savannah, where a little girl is the key to his investigation. And that's what he needs to focus on, not a down-and-out heiress whose jeweled eyes haunt his dreams. Courtney Smythe might be spoiled, but when Kaden notices her ease with the children at the B and B, he sees the beauty beyond her looks. Getting close to Courtney will help his case, and giving in to attraction is the right thing to do. Even if it means perpetuating a lie
Excerpt:
Kaden stared into her eyes and the room shrank. “Were you the little girl in the story?” His voice was a deep caress, drawing Courtney closer. “What?” He swept her hair off her face. “Were you that unhappy girl?” She didn’t want to talk. Didn’t want to move. She wanted him to touch her. “I…I was making up a story for the kids.” “Right.” He tucked a curl back behind her ear, and a single finger stroked down her cheek. His blue eyes locked on hers as he brushed her lower lip with his thumb. “I’m so sorry.” Her breath caught in her chest. Finally, Kaden was going to kiss her…
Review: The Prince's Stolen Virgin
The Prince's Stolen Virgin The Prince's Stolen Virgin by Maisey Yates
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
The Prince's Stolen Virgin by Maisy Yates is the second book in the Once Upon a Seduction series. I read it because I had became a Maisy fan through her cowboy books. This one just did not do I it for me. I could only think of stalk holms syndrome the entire time I was reading.
Review: The Runaway Bride and the Billionaire
The Runaway Bride and the Billionaire The Runaway Bride and the Billionaire by Kate Hardy
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
The Runaway Bride and The Billionaire by Kate Hardy is the third book in Summer at Villa Rosa series. Immi and Matt both have came to a crossroads in life. Somehow they need to figure out exactly where to go from this point in their lives. The Runaway Bride and the Billionaire is very sweet and kind. It leaves you with a desire to want to visit the Villa Rosa.
Immi has constantly been let down by men, starting with her youth boyfriend who took her virginity and going to the man she was engaged. Immi can't win for losing no matter what she does she always seems to somehow feel inadequate. Either feel sorry for her or make fun of her. She just wants to spend some time alone after her world collapses so she can find herself again.
Matt always puts everyone else's needs above his own. Raising his sisters and taken care of his mother became a job at a very young age. His mother is a fulltime job in herself, even though he would never let her feel that way. So he has now done everything he can do to make her life easier and he isn't actually sure where he needs to go from here.
The Runaway Bride and the Billionaire give you the love of family and loyalty all wrapped up in a tight nit bow. The love that the sister's share and show each other is truly what family is all about. Seeing Matt and Immi bring each other into the person they are meant to be is quite inspiring.
Review: Convenient Cinderella Bride
Convenient Cinderella Bride Convenient Cinderella Bride by Joss Wood
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Convenient Cinderella Bride by Joss Wood is just as steamy as her previous work. It is the first book in the Secrets of the A-List series. The desire between Kat and Jonah is immediately noticeable. The two are made for each other but are so caught up in other affairs they make it so difficult to accept the destiny in which they deserve.
Kat is a hostess at restaurant all the rich and famous attend. She knows so many secrets that could pay for everything she ever dreamed of. All she has to do is sell them but unfortunately for her conscious she just isn't that type of person. She has been hurt by any man she has ever trusted. Her father betrayed her by leaving almost everything to her stepmother and her ex-husband betrayed her by becoming a whole other person as soon as the ink was dry and the marriage license. She will never fall for a rich man again. They just aren't worth the hassle and heartache. She will get her dreams one way or another.
Jonah has worked for years to turn his family's company around. His grandfather is absolutely ruthless which has gave the company a name for being ruthless. His father is a liar and cheat which has gave the company a bad name for being deceptive. So once he took the reigns he knew he would bring the company forward with integrity. So when his ruthless grandfather stipulates new plans in order for him to inherit the company he must do the one thing he swore he never would do find a bride.
Joss wood has fastly became a favorite author for me and this book does not disappoint. The chemistry is out of this world. The love between Kat and Jonah is evident immediately to anyone other than the two of them. They are both just a little too stubborn for their own good. I can't wait to read her next one. :)
Review: Full of Fire
Full of Fire Full of Fire by Jennifer Millikin
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Full of Fire by Jennifer Millikin was a first of Jennifer's books for me. I enjoyed it but I wasn't over the top thrilled with it. I am not quite sure what I would change. It was a genuinely good read. I feel that this was a fifty shades story without the playroom and erotic scenes. I got the Rich over bearing male falling for the young college female. You also have a secondary love story which you get to see play out along side of the main love story.
Lila is an introvert college student. She doesn't do parties or big scenes. She keeps to herself and likes it that way. She lives with her best friend whom will graduate with her inside a home her parents own. She has one finale project to finish before graduation.
Xavier is a spoiled rich boy who always gets what he wants. He is very shallow and does things his own way. He seems to change when Lila comes into the picture and doesn't know what it is about her that makes him that way.
Over all Full of Fire is a good read. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and secondary characters.
Review: No Getting Over a Cowboy
No Getting Over a Cowboy No Getting Over a Cowboy by Delores Fossen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
No Getting Over a Cowboy is the second Book in the Wrangler's Creek series. I absolutely adore going back to Wrangler's Creek I fell in love with the place when I was read the McCord Brother Series by Delores Fossen as well. Delores Fossen was already a favorite author due to her suspense novels but once I got my hand on her new writing style in the HQN line I knew I HAD to have every book. I feel that this line brings out her better work. In No Getting Over a Cowboy we are visiting the Granger Ranch.
Garrett Granger has fastly became one of my favorite hero's. He is a broken man whom has no choice but to continue to face life and everything that it sees fit to through at him. First he lost his daughter, then his company was in a scandal, and during the scandal his wife is caught cheating. How much more can this poor man take? His one dream is to build the Granger Ranch to everything he knows it has the potential to be. Yet what is gonna happen next? He knows something is coming he just doesn't know what that is yet.
Nicky has lost her husband whom was cheating on her. She just needs time to to heal. Opening up a retreat for other women like her is the perfect solution to solve all her problems. So now she just needs to convince the one man who took her virginity to leave her alone and let her continue to open her Widows home on the property she leased from his mother and hope none of her past comes back to harm her or her daughter while in the process.
No Getting over a cowboy has many bumps and secrets to reveal as you read it. Will Garrett be able to expand the Ranch? Will Nicky get her dreams off the ground? What could possibly go wrong in Wrangler's Creek to stand in the way? You will absolutely love your journey to Wrangler's Creek I know I sure did.
GRAND FINALE BLITZ: The Alaskan Catch by Beth Carpenter (Harlequin Heartwarming)
Book Tour Grand Finale for
The Alaskan Catch
By Beth Carpenter
We hope you enjoyed the tour and getting a taste of Alaska! If you missed any
of the stops you can see snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:
Launch - Author Interview
What inspired you to write THE ALASKAN CATCH?
One thing I hear over and over in Alaska is, “I came for the summer and never left.” I wanted my heroine, Dana, to feel that connection, to recognize that Alaska is a place where she can become the person she wants to be.
What do you hope readers take with them after they’ve read it?
As Sam tells Dana, “You can paddle your own boat or you can throw up your hands and let the current carry you wherever it will.” Find your river and keep on paddling.
Brooke Blogs - Excerpt
“I don’t feel sorry for you.” Dana gave a wry smile. Maybe she did feel bad for that boy whose mother deserted him, but not for the man he’d grown into. “In fact, if I’m honest, this weekend when I saw you and Ursula hug, I was a little jealous. I’d love to have someone in my life who was that glad to see me show up.”
Nicole's Book Musings - Ten Reasons to Fall in Love with Alaska
1. The Views Need I say more?
2. Summer Daylight In Anchorage on June 20th, the sun rises at 4:19am and sets at 11:40pm. In between it never gets completely dark.
Becky on Books - Review
"The Alaskan Catch is a sweet story about family, finding your own path (“paddling your own boat” as it’s put one more than once here–both figuratively and literally), and learning to put your trust in unexpected love even when it seems contrary to the plans you thought you had. Besides finding each other, Dana and Sam also find out some hard truths about their families’ histories during the course of the story, which each has to deal with in their own way. Neither is exactly on the path they thought they’d be by the end of the book, but since they’re on that new path together, it makes all the difference."
“Hold it right there.”
Sam blinked. He knew he was tired, but was he hallucinating? A woman wearing flowery shorts and a pink tank top stood in his living room, near the hallway. She couldn’t have been more than five-two or three, but the red gun in her hands more than made up for her petite size. Especially since the hands seemed to be shaking.
Heidi Reads... - Review
"What an adventure! I loved all the details of Dana's adventure in Alaska. There was a mystery of old family secrets, a friendship-to-romance relationship, exciting excursions, and descriptions of amazing landscapes and wildlife."
Hearts & Scribbles - Character Interview
Today, we’re talking with Dana Raynott, the heroine from THE ALASKAN CATCH.
Dana, what brought you to Alaska?
I came looking for my brother. When I was sixteen, he and my father argued and Chris left home. My father would never tell me what they fought about. Recently my father died, and left Chris some money in his will. I thought it was the perfect time to track him down, get a few answers, and hopefully reunite our family.
"I really enjoyed this new Harlequin Heartwarming book by Beth Carpenter! It had a bit of everything in it- adventure, mystery and romance. I loved the Alaskan setting with so much of the story taking place outdoors with the beauties of nature on full display."
underneath the covers - Even Shopping is Different
My first ever Harlequin, THE ALASKAN CATCH, takes place in my hometown of Anchorage, Alaska. Anchorage is a typical American city in a lot of ways, but with its own personal style. For example, we have an international airport, a small plane airport, and a float plane airport. A wayward moose can throw a real wrench into rush-hour traffic. Many of the pedestrian overpasses are specifically designed to accommodate sled dog teams.
And then there’s shopping...
"This book has a great story-line of friendship, mystery, forgiveness and love. I would recommend this to anyone. The kissing scenes are very modestly done. You cannot help but to fall in love with Alaska and the characters."
"I’ve been a Harlequin fan since high school and I think this is a great addition to my collection. By the time you finish, you will understand why Harlequin has added to their Heartwarming series. . . . Toward the very end, Dana says something to Sam that sums things up nicely – this book was a great adventure. It also left me looking forward to reading more of this series. "
Books to Read Next - Excerpt
He frowned. Dana wasn’t helpless. In fact, two days ago, she’d threatened to shoot him. It was highly unlikely she’d come to any harm on a nice day downtown, surrounded by people. And yet here he was, worrying about her. Maybe Chris was right—Sam hadn’t been out with a woman for too long. He needed to get a grip.
"The Alaskan Catch kept me grinning throughout each chapter. Sam and Dana are so sweet together, and you’ll find yourself rooting for them all along the way. Their backstories are poignant and compelling, and the more they (and we) discover the more compelling it becomes. An awesome dog, vivid supporting characters, and breathtaking kisses scenery (ok… that first kiss is pretty breathtaking too) round out the mix and may have you booking your next vacation in Alaska!"
So, you want to date an Alaskan. Who wouldn’t? You’ve seen the pictures of hunky wilderness firefighters and fishermen. In Alaska, there are around a hundred and seven men for every hundred women. But women in Alaska have a saying. The odds are good, but the goods are odd.
"The book has some suspense and mystery to it and also adventure. Once you start the book it is hard to put down. . . . I really loved all the characters but I think Sam and Dana were my favorite. I definitely recommend this book. I have found another great author."
"Beth Carpenter has earned herself a solid spot in the heart of the Harlequin Heartwarming author line-up with her debut novel in the line! It brings us secrets and despair, gorgeous countryside and the hearts of good, solid people to overcome the turmoil brought forth when lives are turned upside down with shocking revelations. The characters are down to earth, real and well developed and the plot takes us along for the ride of a sweet love story that stands the test of time and tribulation. Looking forward to seeing more from her!"
Harlie's Books - Excerpt & Review
Sam had purposely chosen not to reveal Dana’s last name yet. He wanted Ursula’s unbiased evaluation of her character first. And while he hadn’t talked to Ursula alone, it was obvious the two women clicked. It may have been when Dana offered to make the cornbread, or possibly when she complimented one of Tommy’s whirligigs, but at some point today, Dana had won Ursula over. He wondered if it would stay that way once Ursula knew her last name.
"I loved how Chris, Dana and Sam’s past were intertwined. I’m not going to say anything else because it’s the crust of the book. Hats off to Ms. Carpenter for her originality. Brilliant, actually. And also, that not everything was done in Alaska. Dana still had some things to take care off back home with her new found strength. Oh yes, Dana had some growing to do in the book. It was subtle but in the end, it was well worth it."
Paulette's Papers - Six Ways to Test Your Courage in Alaska
Dana Raynott, the heroine in THE ALASKA CATCH, plays it safe. She’s always done exactly what her father asked her to do, even if it wasn’t what she wanted. But after her father’s death, she travels to Alaska to find her long-lost brother and spends time with his best friend, Sam. In this new place, with Sam by her side, she discovers reserves of courage she never knew she had.
Want a challenge? Here are six ways to test your courage in Alaska...
"A heartwarming novel about creating your own future and not living in the crux your family has left for you. This novel has a lot to learn about appearances not always being what they seem and just possibly our parents have learnt from something in their own past to guide them in the directions they try and push us into following. Everything in life is not as you expect it to be."
"This is my first story by Beth Carpenter, but it won’t be my last. I loved the way the author wove an enticing story of romance and suspense, set in the beautiful backdrop of breathtaking Alaska. The characters were realistic and engaging. They had me cheering for them all the way to the end.
I would highly recommend, The Alaskan Catch to anyone looking for a great romance."
A heartwarming novel about creating your own future and not living in the crux your family has left for you. This novel has a lot to learn about appearances not always being what they seem and just possibly our parents have learnt from something in their own past to guide them in the directions they try and push us into following. Everything in life is not as you expect it to be.
Dana always wanted her family to notice her. She was the perfect daughter and followed all directions. So she needed to understand why her brother had walked away from the family and never looked back. She knew her family had it's own problems but nothing could be bad enough to keep her brother away for years and not even come home for her father's funeral.
Sam had built himself up from pretty much being a homeless child whom took care of his mother. He created the man he was today even if he never knew his father and his mother was a drunk who eventually left him too. Sam was fueled by his career and nothing could possibly get in the way of his five year plan. He would soon be overseas and have the career of his dreams.
